It's been a while.

It's been a while.

In fact looking at my last post, it's 15 March. it's more than 3 months already, gosh.

Naturally, I am not going to say that I'm not lazy, however it is in fact that there were things in life so important that I couldn't spare enough time to type what has been happening.

Well, I guess it's time to do some update.

As of 3 months ago, I told you that my boss sucked. Nothing has changed 3 months later. In fact I feel sorry for him that he is still pretty much who he used to be but he still thinks that he's doing a damn good job leading a team that was already good. He is someone who is really good at claiming credit I think that's why he can feel so much sense of achievement without really achieving anything. well, good for him, I guess he lives a happy and fulfilling life.

So, like I said a lot has changed.

The reason that I have been busy was mainly because I have met a girl that is very important to me. I have been spending most of my time with her, and our relationship grew. So I am now officially her boyfriend, which makes me happy. She's is the happiest thing that has happened to me in recent years, what a lucky guy I am.

So, about work. I wrote about an entry in February about a senior leaving the team. the decision for the successor for her position of Subject Matter Expert stirred up quite some drama. The thing is that there were a couple of candidates applied for that position, some were very qualified, some were incompetent.

Well before I get to that, let me explain what this role is about, I'm sure you guys will understand my point.

There's a "SME", or "Subject Matter Expert" in every team here in this organisation. Like the name of the role suggests, it usually is a person that is most familiar with all the processes in the team so that he/she will be the point of reference not only for the whole team, also for the Team Leader as well. Simply because if you have a Team Leader that was transfered from another department, he may be good in doing everything else but there's a good chance of a new leader being lacking in terms of process knowledges.

A SME should not be:
  1. a secretary
  2. a clark
  3. a driver
  4. a bangla
  5. an admin
  6. a media coordinator
  7. an analyst
  8. an idiot
  9. a blur case
  10. a dog.
Meanwhile a SME should be:
  1. Good in process knowledges
  2. Knows the correct point of escalations for different issues
  3. possess the ability to spot weakness in processes and come up with improvements
  4. has good leadership (as need to step in when Leader is away)
  5. Decision maker
So, like I said there were some dramas over the selection of the candidates. A couple of people applied for the job. One of them being a colleague of mine for nearly 2 years, that have been in every role in this team, knows how most of the things work in this company and ; and one of them is a newbie that was transfered from another team that was merely half a year in the team, plus half of that time she was on maternity leave. She has not learned all the processes for the role that she is doing, and she has zero knowledge about how the other half of the team works.

When we talking about a successor to my senior that's leaving, we are now seeking for a person that is knowledgable in terms of process flows, who are the point of escalations, and someone that is efficient, and a quick decision maker. On top of that this person needs to be good enough to be a substitue whenever the Team Leader is absent. No one expects this successor to be as good as my senior however, should at least on par or not so far away.

So, from the above description, it is so clearly who is the person that would have got the job.

My friend that is qualified for everything, was turned down for the position. Reason given by the Supervisor?

He is over qualified........................................................

What a whole lot of utter bullshit.

Which part of the world will you hear a promotion denied for being over qualified? Well, right here, no where else. This place suddenly became a land of jokes, decisions made by a retard will often end up with retarded outcome. This outcome, is far beyond retarded. I think linguists from oxford needs to come out with a new word to describe this level of retardness.

So who got the job?
The newbie that was newly transfered from another department who has minimal experience with things in this department, has became our SME. So how good she is?

In the "should not be" catagory, she fits number 1,2,4,5,6,7,9,10.

In the "should be" unfortunately she fits none.

Pretty much a total disaster. As time goes by, the fact manifested itself again and again, it's a disaster for her for getting the role; it is also a disaster for the team to have her as the new SME. I do not blame her for going to the interview, because she once mentioned that she did not even intend to get the job, was only going for the experience. So who is there to blame?

The supervisor that selected her.

Well  it may not be fair to blame the Supervisor. However think of it in this way: no matter how good she is with her interview skills and everything, it is still down to the Supervisor to judge who is the more suitable candidate. In terms of performance there is always satistics, in terms of knowledge there will always be appropriate demonstartion while working on the floor. If there isnt sufficient time to judge a person to possess sufficient knowledge due to tenureship, then it should be considered that a person is not qualified.

Sounds logical?

And so my friend was disqualified for over qualified.

Think of it this way, in a F1 race in Sepang, a Ferrari car was so damn fast that it finished the race 2 laps ahead of the rest of the cars. Instead of being crowned the champion, the FIA ruled the Ferrari car to be disqualified because it was simply too fast, and the slowest car should get the opportunity to be award to a podium position.

Full of shit, isnt it?

That was exactly what happened.

And so a person that has zero knowledge about how things are run, has been given a title of "EXPERT", and recieves the relevant salary.

The only thing that she is different from my friend, is that she is an absolute dog that listens to every single little thing that Supervisor says, from go down and buy tissue paper, to attend a call conference that the Supervisor is reluctant to go for.

Master plan. Instead of hiring a Process Master, he hired a secretary/clark.

Good job.
I feel sorry for her, honestly. She has been suffering since she got the role, struggling to gain everyone's trust because of her poor performance. Instead of being an asset to the team she has become quite a baggage. She is constantly going to the adjacent team's SME to ask about things that is relevant to our team, asking for outsider's help. She is also unfamiliar with most of the operation procedures within the team so bad that she has to keep asking various people about how to do her job. It's already becoming a joke.

And she is responsible of doing Quality Analysis of the team's performances.

Hooray, like hell that's gonna ever be accurate. Anyway, it's none of my business.

That doesnt conclude the whole matter, but that's all I am going to say about this. It's not like anyone can help this. The only thing we can hope for is that this SME will pick up as much as she could and as soon as possible, and not become a jerk like her boss. Then maybe this team is salvagable. One thing that the supervisor fails to see, is that the morale in this team is at its historical low point. Well, minus those that he hired and 2 newbies, maybe they are still in good condition.

I'm already tired of bitching about him.

Ok, so, first post for returning to my dear blogging.

To be continued....

Signing off...
